New York, New York! Oh how I love NY!
New York, New York! Oh how I love NY!
I took my first business trip to NY with Morrison a few weeks ago. I was terrified. I was flying solo with him. Not only with him, but with all his gear and all my gear. I had no idea how I was going to do it.
I was confiding to a mom friend who has twins and she said “there will be a nice lady who will come up to you and offer to hold your baby during the flight. Let her do it.” I couldn’t imagine. What I could imagine was me being that sweaty stressed out Mom, with a screaming baby and too much luggage that everyone is staring at but no one is helping. But that didn’t happen.
I had two women come up to help me. And they held little Mo for a total of about three hours on a five-hour flight. It was bliss. It started out my five-day trip to New York with a bang and the trip was wonderful.
I did mainly family photography when I was there with return clients who I knew well and loved. They all got to meet Morrison. One client “loaned” me her nanny for a day when I was in my studio. And another client who I photographed at her home, just said to bring him.
Note if you have more than three children, I come to you to do family photography if you are in Manhattan.
Mo was amazing. He smiled, laughed and slept. He loved all the new experiences and loved that he got to sleep with mama in bed. The night before I was to leave, I had a meet and greet at the ACE Hotel near my studio. It was here he just unraveled and I realized that I am still an amateur mother. I planned the event after a long day, not thinking that this might push Mo to his limit. Well it did and there he was crying and losing it while all these hipsters geeked out on their laptops. Live and learn.
I am happy to say the trip was a huge success. I was able to have great synergy in the studio and capture my clients’ growing children, their wonderful relationships in some breathtaking images. AND I was able to be a good mama. Wasn’t sure I could do it, but all I can say is phew! It worked out. But I was exhausted when it was over and slept for two days. Now I find I want to have amazing family photos taken of my family!
