Seattle Pregnancy Photo client Minnie - Mother of the Month - September
I met Minnie in our maternity photography session last month. I knew immediately she was going to be my next Mother of the Month because I was so inspired by her. She was beautiful, creative, excited about her pregnancy, pregnancy photogrphy and having a baby – and like me, she decided to have her baby with her boyfriend before getting married.
Tell me a little bit about yourself, Kevin and Phoenix.
It was a Saturday night and I was on a blind date. The date didn’t go very well to say the least and instead of heading back home I decided to go up to a bar and have a couple drinks to myself. Kevin came down a little later with his friends and cousin and ended up sitting next to me. Well after a couple drinks and bad pick-up lines (ha) here we are 3 years later and a baby on the way!!I have always been somewhat non-traditional so having a partner who is 13 years older and having a child before marriage isn’t something that bothers me. Marriage is overrated- we have such a wonderful relationship already plus we have both been married before so are in no rush- if it happens it will when the time is right either way I am 100% happy. Having an older son and a newborn isn’t as complicated as it may seem. He is my son and I love him just as much. It will be a big age difference but he is very excited for our new addition and I know he is going to be a wonderful big brother! We both love to travel! I love seeing the world, different cultures and the beauty of it and to just have someone to share that adventure with is twice the fun! In the 3 years we have been together we have had quite a few trips including Belize, Thailand, Paris and planning to visit Portugal and Spain sometime next year. Aside from traveling, reading, working out and playing the piano are some of my favorite hobbies.
Tell me about what drew you to my work, and why you trusted me to take these special photos.
I absolutely love Jennifer’s work! Kevin and I went back and forth for so long about the decision to even have a baby. I knew I wanted one but he is also older and already had one about to graduate from high school so I understood his hesitation so it came as a huge surprise when he said yes. This probably being our first and last I knew I wanted to have maternity pictures taken to capture this special moment in our lives. I did some research on photographers and Jennifer was one of the first I came across and absolutely fell in love with her work. She took such care and time into creating each shot and the emotion that came across in each photo just brings me to tears each time I see them. It’s such a timeless and beautiful moment not only for me but also for my family and the pictures reflected that and so much more.
Please feel free to include anything else you like that is interesting about you or your parenting philosophy.
Pregnancy has been such an amazing journey - to have life growing inside of you, there is no greater gift. I am half Samoan/Indian and I am so proud of the cultures and sharing that with my child is something that is very important to me. Open communication and just being involved in every aspect of your child’s life is what I think helps to form a strong parent-child bond. This will be my first so there will be lots to learn which I’m sure will come over time nonetheless I am very excited and looking forward to motherhood and have lots of amazing mommy’s and grandma’s in our family to help me along the way. Thank you so much Jennifer!
