Seattle Family Photographer – June Mother of the Month
This month I choose a mother who I have been working with for several years. Our boys are almost the same age. I have gotten to know her and her husband, they are easy to be around. There feels like there is a real harmony. I wanted to hear how she manages a busy life and kids. She told me. Meet Kathryn.
1. Tell me a little bit about yourself, Mike and how you met. Why you decided to have kids. Was it an easy process?
Mike and I met in an operating room pharmacy while he was in residency training and I was still in school trying to figure out what to do with my life. He offered to teach me to snowboard and we accidentally locked the keys in his truck at the resort. We have been inseparable ever since. He unintentionally talked me into going to medical school because he loved his job and told me all about it. Now we are both doctors juggling careers and kids!
2. What is your secret to a good relationship? How do you want to guide this little person in the world?
Our secret is finding nice things to do for each other. Mike makes me a mocha every morning. We take turns sleeping in on the weekends. After 15 years of marriage we still love spending time together and make our time a priority.
We would love to instill our kids with a sense of empathy, patience and gratitude. If we can help them see the value in following the golden rule then we will have done a good job.
3. Tell me about why you decided to have professional family or maternity photographs, and why you trusted me to take these special photos.
We became parents a bit later in life and want to savor every moment. Starting with our son's first birthday we wanted a yearly photo shoot that can capture our family for a few moments in time. Choosing Jennifer Loomis was easy. We met her, her partner Brian and their son Mo through Seattle PEPS and immediately connected with them. We thought Jennifer was a wonderful mother and were intrigued with the idea of her photojournalism background melding with family photography.
4. Please feel free to include anything else you like that is interesting about you or your parenting philosophy. I am particularly interested in being busy professionals and how you guys strive for balance.
Balance has always been tough to achieve with our unpredictable hours. Our amazing childcare provider Claudia makes our lives so much better. Because of her we don't worry about the kids when we are away. On our days off we prioritize family time, even if it means the dishes sit in the sink and the laundry stacks up. We love spending time with the kids and don't demand perfection from ourselves.
