ESSENTIALLY SEATTLE
ESSENTIALLY SEATTLE
The Essentially Seattle project is Jennifer’s first public art commission. This project was created as a way to showcase essential workers throughout Seattle during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
During a six-week period Jennifer photographed and interviewed over 60 essential workers in South Seattle. Using a special lens, and photographing them outside of their homes, she was able to create images that capture their inner world as they navigate being on the front lines of a pandemic, while at the same time trying to protect themselves and their families.
Jennifer turned to the community to help her define “essential worker” which helped her showcase just how many members of the Southend Seattle community have been essential to the survival of the city during the COVID outbreak. Each participant was nominated by either themselves, their neighbors, coworkers, friends, or family.
